In the next section we will sort the Star Wars movies by the canonical order in which they appear in the franchises timeline. Remember Star Wars was initially devised by George Lucas as a nine part science fiction film series, split into three separate series of three movies.
However, due to funding limitations, Lucas assumed he’d make the movie with the best chance of success, so he began the franchise by writing and directing Star Wars: A New Hope. As a result of the films massive success, funding was no longer a problem and now (2020) we get a new Star Wars movie every year. Therefore please note that this list was last updated on September 16, 2020. While we will attempt to keep this list accurate and up to date, if a movie was released after that date, this list may be incomplete.
